United Nations
Video Campaign

I directed an 8-video documentary-style social series for the United Nations Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea (DOALOS), turning ocean governance, science, and policy into human stories with clear takeaways. The work included the Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction Treaty (BBNJ) campaign, supporting ratification momentum that helped the agreement enter into global law on January 17, 2026. 🌊

The series was created as part of the DOALOS/Norad Programmes of Assistance, funded by the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad). I led field production and interviews across locations including Fiji and France, capturing not only policy and training, but the people behind it. With 109 nations participating and multiple countries strengthening their laws, the programme’s impact extends beyond workshops into real, lasting changes in how oceans are governed.

One of the core films in the series is Peni’s Last Catch, following Peni Suveinaka from Nabaka Village in Fiji. Peni shares how generations of his community have taken local initiative to protect the marine environment, and how the programme helped turn that conviction into action. Inspired by what he learned, his village helped create its own marine protected area, a tangible outcome rooted in knowledge, pride, and local leadership.

For the BBNJ (Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction) campaign, I directed films designed to make a legally complex treaty feel urgent, human, and memorable. The European Union was the primary stakeholder partner, and the work was shared by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, helping amplify the message at a critical moment. Momentum grew from 29 ratifications to 60, reaching the threshold needed for entry into force, and the BBNJ Agreement officially entered into global law on January 17, 2026.
